Surely in recent months you have heard about the Draft Law on the Protection and Rights of Animals and the possible new DNI for your dog. There is a lot of information and news talking about the subject, which has caused a great stir and many doubts on the part of pet owners. First of all, it must be clarified that the law contemplated in this document is still a draft that may undergo modifications. What we do know is that this draft does talk about a DNI for dogs, cats and other pets, although it does not detail its entry into force or how to get it or what price it will have. Until now it is only known that it is proposed as a complementary identification to the microchip. As we have already mentioned in another post, it is mandatory to have civil liability insurance for dogs in the Community of Madrid . An obligation that goes hand in hand with this draft, which seeks, little by little, for animals to be more protected and have more rights. It is also important to know that therapy dogs, rescue or detection dogs, or even herding dogs, must have their own working dog insurance to perform these activities safely.
Another issue linked to the DNI for pets that is raised in this possible new law is that of training courses. These courses must be taken on a mandatory basis by all owners of pets. As with the DNI, there are many unknowns around these courses such as the syllabus, its price or its duration. What is known about the DNI for dogs and pets in Spain: Entry into force, price and obligation As we have told you, it is expected that cats and dogs will have their own ID during this year 2022 if the Draft Law on the Protection and Rights of Animals is finally approved. What other aspects are covered by law in addition to the DNI for pets? As we already told you in our post about the new Spanish animal welfare law , the way in which animals will be registered will change, including pets, animals from zoos, breeders, those disqualified from belonging to animals, professionals of animal behavior and animal protection entities. On the other hand, the maximum time for a pet to be without the supervision of its owner is finally limited to three consecutive days, reduced to one in the case of dogs. Furthermore, in this new law, the circumstances under which the sacrifice of animals can be resorted to are also limited; It will be prohibited to resort to this due to issues of saturation of the center or due to the behavior of the animal. Finally, another of the most talked about developments is the prohibition of the sale of animals in stores, avoiding compulsive or capricious purchases and ensuring the well-being of all animals.
